Bajaj Chetak Electric Scooter: The Bajaj Chetak electric scooter has taken the Indian market by storm, shattering sales records in August 2023. Bajaj Motor India reported an incredible 190% growth compared to last year, selling 8,032 units this August versus just 2,762 units in August 2022. This retro-styled electric scooter has clearly struck a chord with Indian buyers, becoming the standout performer in Bajaj’s electric vehicle lineup.

What’s Driving the Chetak’s Popularity?

Priced between ₹1,15,500 to ₹1,37,458 (ex-showroom), the Chetak offers great value in the electric scooter segment. What really makes it special is its perfect blend of classic design and modern technology. The scooter keeps the iconic Chetak look that Indians love, but now with a clean electric powertrain. Its metal body panels give it a premium feel that stands out from plastic-bodied competitors, while the LED lighting and sequential turn indicators add a contemporary touch.

Performance That Impresses

Behind the sleek look of this Chetak, a useful 3kWh lithium-ion battery gives 95km range in Sport mode (or 50km Eco) – an understated, practical package once you peel back the stainless steel. Powered by a 4kW motor for responsive acceleration suitable for daily commutes, with 16Nm of peak torque that breezes through traffic like it’s nothing. The battery is said to give Bajaj buyer some peace of mind and last over 70,000 km, no problem.

Smart Features for Modern Riders

Chetak: Not cheap on tech either The dash is completely digital, taking care of all you need to know stuff including battery status and trip details for the rider. Bluetooth connectivity to the smartphone lets you get call alerts and more. Parking assistance, reverse assist mode, maximize range with regenerative braking and it even has a smart battery management system to improve battery life and charging/discharging, as scooter.

Two Variants to Choose From

Urban and Premium Bajaj Chetak have seven colour variants, i-e white, Pink, black, yellow, red, blue. Combined braking system (CBS) in both versions: front disc brake and rear drum brake for quick to stop. The Premium include a few more goodies than is justified by its higher price tag.

Tough Competition

Strong competition from the likes of Ather 450X, TVS iQube and Revolt RV400 for Chetak But its nostalgia design, Bajaj known brand strength and entry level pricing have clearly ticked the boxes of buyers. A July sales data is showing almost record August sales for the electric scooter that combines style, performance and value – it’s got to be Chetak, right?

The journey of Chetak could probably just starting from where, with electric vehicle adoption skyrocketing in India. In August it performed the way it did to show that Indian buyers are excited to go electric, particularly when it is packed in a known & trusted entity like Chetak name.
